Did a VW V10-powered Touareg have enough power to tow a Boeing 747? This was the basis of a disagreement between two VW employees. Perhaps, after the consumption of too much German beer.
To settle the augument, VW hitched a Touareg to a 150 tonne 747 at Dunsfold Aerodrome in England. With Touareg having a towing capacity of just 3.5 tonnes it was a tall order. Some minor modifications were required, including the addition of a 4.3 tonne of weight to the rear (for traction) and transmission tweaks. All other suspension and engine specifications remained in original form.
The end result: The Touareg easily towed the huge aircraft the full length of the runway.
